Today is one of those days where you expect to get on a flight at 3:00 and be home by 5:00 but instead you get on that flight at 3:00, it takes off, it turns around, you land back at the airport you came from, you wait for three hours, they cancel the flight, you grab a rental car, and you start driving through the night. Still plenty of glitter and yay - cute dogs at the airport and nice TSA agents who let you get pizza delivery through security and kind strangers - but not much access to regular technology for blogging. Back to regular scheduled programming tomorrow.

01.06.2018 - Baby Animals
Today's Action: Watch some baby animals. If you can do this in real life, by hanging out with your own puppy or kitten or kid (the goat kind, obviously), then I'm super jealous. Otherwise, there's always the internet. Here are some I watched today:
Baby otter makes a huge mess eating his dinner
Baby panda trying to make a run for it
Baby skunk and fox playing
Baby pigs - in rainboots! and eating ice cream!
And hey, huge bonus - watching cute animals makes you more productive.
Today's Inspiration:
Today's Made-Me-Smile:

It actually wants to make me go to the gym. Kitten work out shirt, $23.00 on Etsy.
Tomorrow's Action: Read a poem.

01.05.2018 - Be Outside
Today's Action: Be outside. Take a walk. Go to a park. Play fetch in the backyard with your dog. Sit on your porch or balcony with a blanket and a hot beverage and watch the world go by. Run out and make a snow angel. Don't just go outside, be outside.
I'm visiting some family in St. George, Utah, which was a beautiful 70 degrees today, and I went on the most lovely walk and chat. Would highly, highly recommend.

Today's Made-Me-Smile:
I adore Kat Martin's nerdified paintings. I met her last summer at Craft Lake City (after crushing on her Etsy shop for years) and she's not only crazy talented, but also super nice.

Ready Set Kart print available for $15.00 on Etsy.

01.04.2018 - Color
Today's Action: Make something a color you love. Change your desktop or phone wallpaper, get fabric to cover a throw pillow or make curtains, dye your hair, color your to-do list, make or buy frosting and use food coloring to get it to just the right shade, before smearing it all over cake or graham crackers.
I painted my nails a shade of green that always makes me smile:

Essie Off Tropic.

Today's Made-Me-Smile:

Metallic colored pencils (because everything is better in metallic), currently marked down to $4.54 on Amazon.
Tomorrow's Action: Spend some time outside.

01.03.2018 - Stretch
Today's Action: Stretch those muscles and focus on how nice it feels. Reach up as high as you can, and from side to side. Point your toes. Then point your heels. Roll your neck and shoulders. Pay attention to which parts of your body hurt and try to release some of the tension you may be holding in them.
As a desk warrior with maybe-not-the-greatest posture, I never think to stretch out my traps but when I do it feels amazing. This morning was no exception.
Today's Quote:
Today's Made-Me-Smile:
This Esty shop, North Ave, has a line of candles inspired by banned books. I bought one (Fahrenheit 451 - Smoked Pine & Parchment) for a friend for Christmas. It was really high quality, smelled incredible, and I can't wait to get some for my own house.

Ginger Peach James and the Giant Peach candle, $24.00 on Etsy.

01.02.2018 - Thank You Note
Today's Action: Write a thank you note to someone. Send a thank you card to your grandmother for the Christmas money. Text your best friend and thank them for being there for you through the ups and downs of last year. Drop an email to someone who helped you achieve one of your New Year's Resolution's last year (a teacher? therapist? personal trainer?) or send a Facebook message to a parent figure in your life telling them how much their support has meant to you.
I sent out some thank-you cards (by inter-office mail, which always makes me feel very Mad Men) to some coworkers who came to my housewarming.
Cards from the super talented Matisse at The Semi Bold (Etsy shop).
The New York Times ran a lovely piece yesterday about how when we use willpower to achieve our goals, we wear ourselves out and can even make ourselves sick. But when we move forward powered by gratitude, we can be much more effective (even thinking about something we are thankful for first makes us more likely to make better, more future-oriented choices). If you have a few minutes, the article is well worth the read.

The Mission
2017 hasn't been easy, at least not for me. My marriage of 9 years fell apart. I had to sell my house and move and then move again. My job got a lot harder. I got in two fender benders in two weeks and the insurance company decided they were both my fault. My grandfather was diagnosed with and then died from cancer. I stood up for something I believed in and someone who disagreed with me started spreading rumors about my credibility. I've been sick and exhausted. And in the meantime, the people and causes I care about have been under fire from a government run by a man who brags about sexual assault.
Of course, there were plenty of moments of joy in 2017 as well. But going forward I want to focus on them, create more of them, and spread happiness to those around me instead of anxiety. Hence this project. Every day I will document my daily bits of glitter and yay: concrete actions I've tried to improve my mood or the world around me (feel free to join me in doing them!), happy quotes and inspiring art, little purchases to brighten the day or bring a smile to a friend. Sometimes I will throw in longer thoughts about science and self care and balance and being, but the focus will always be on joy.
Here's to the journey, friends 💕
